Wednesday Gaming – E3, Studio Closures and MORE!

– After 28 years, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is no more. News of its discontinuation was revealed by Stanley Pierre-Louis, the president and CEO of event organisers Entertainment Software Association, in an interview with a US media outlet on Tuesday, 12 December, as well as via a tweet on E3’s official Twitter/X account.

– The once-popular gaming showcase and trade event was last held online on 12 June 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Money lost as a result of E3 being cancelled in recent years, as well as publishers and developers backing out to host standalone gaming showcases, also contributed to its downfall.

– Free Radical Design, a British subsidiary of Embracer Group and the video game company behind the “TimeSplitters” FPS franchise, officially shut its doors on Monday, 11 December. Per reports, Embracer failed to find any buyers for the company, which was facing financial difficulties. 

– In related news, Fntastic – the developers behind “The Day Before”, which was released on 7 December for early access, but then shut down four days later due to an overwhelmingly negative reception – has also closed its doors as a result of the game’s poor sales performance.

– According to Bethesda, “Starfield” players will be able to enjoy “new ways of travelling” when they introduce new updates to the game in 2024.
